Advisor David Lile
& Specialists Lisa Thompson & Ken Tate are involved in a
multi-agency study of Eagle Lake rainbow trout in Pine Creek, Lassen Co.
Historical degradation of the watershed led to the establishment of a
hatchery to sustain the trout fishery in Eagle Lake. Passage upstream was
blocked with a weir & spawner collection
trap, but there is now interest in restoring a natural spawning run. The
group has radio-tracked migrating spawners to
detect stream features that may block or hinder upstream passage. In 2006
they will test the use of passive integrated transponder tags &
antennas as a less invasive method for tracking fish movement.
