Advisor Michael Marzolla
leads this project that has developed an educational unit to help youth
learn about salmon & steelhead, & the vital relationship these fish
have to healthy watersheds. The online curriculum is experiential &
place-based, & designed to enhance the participants' understanding of salmonids, engage them in their surroundings, &
encourage their active leadership in addressing related issues in their
community. The project is directed toward under-served communities, with a
focus on Latino youth & families. The curriculum has been designed for
6th grade youth in classroom settings, after-school programs, & other
venues. Collaborators include: UC Cooperative Extension, UCCE 4-H Youth
Development Program, Adopt-A-Watershed Program, Resident Services of the
Housing Authority City of Santa Barbara, & the Santa Barbara County
Water Agency.
